Wild and wonderful
At first glance, remote Assynt might appear to be one of the emptiest places in Britain…but look a little closer. The area teems with life, including deer, seals, dolphins, whales, otters, stoats, red squirrels, a riot of birds and insects, and a profusion of wildflowers, to name but a few of the wonders on offer. Don’t forget to take your camera with you wherever you go!

What unites these wonderful walks is the beauty of the surroundings and their fascinating terrain. Ancient geology and enchanting folklore is woven into the stunning scenery. Beautiful beaches
With unblemished expanses of white sand, azure seas, crystal-clear rock pools and crashing waves, a beach visit is a must during your Highland stay. Summer or winter, they are equally wonderful. We recommend seal-spotting and sea-swimming at cute little Clashnessie; Instagrammable Achmelvich, the road trippers’ paradise; beautiful Balnakeil in the far north west, and striking Stoer, overlooked by an Iron Age broch.

Loch Drumbeg
Still waters fed by babbling burns. Wild brown trout leaping. Ducks, geese and moorhens paddling by. Wild swim, kayak, paddleboard, fish…or simply sit in the meadow and see the clouds reflected in the shimmering water. As the sun sets, watch the deer come down from the nearby hills to graze.
-
Stay in the heart of a crofting community...
Experience the life of a traditional Highland crofting community. From your shepherd’s hut, watch real-life shepherds tend to their grazing flocks on the hills around Loch Drumbeg. Crofting is the heartbeat of the north west, and your visit supports the life of our tiny community, contributing to its survival.

Winter escapes
You can Unloch in winter too… With underfloor heating, a log burner, extensive insulation, double-glazing and its protected position in a glade of native trees, our accommodation is cosy and comfortable whatever the weather. The changing seasons bring snow to the high mountains, crisp mornings, beaches to yourself, and the eerie calls of the deer rut echoing across the Loch.
